Bhubaneswar: With a simple majority in 2024 Assembly elections in Odisha, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) is all set to form its government for the first time in the state.

With a total 81 MLAs (78 BJP and 3 legislators), a team of BJP leaders headed by newly elected Odisha CM Mohan Charan Majhi met Odisha Governor Raghubar Das at Raj Bhawan to stake claim to form the first BJP government in Odisha.

Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan, Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw and BJP's Odisha in-charge Vijay Pal Singh Tomar were part of the delegation.

Earlier in the evening, Union Defence Minister Rajnath Singh, who was appointed as the BJP's central observer to select the new CM of Odisha, announced Mohan Charan Majhi's name as the Chief Minister of the state after the Legislature party meeting held at the party's state headquarters in Bhubaneswar.

Besides, the central BJP leader announced newly elected Patnagarh MLA Kanak Vardhan Singh Deo and Nimapara MLA Pravati Parida as the Deputy Chief Ministers of Odisha.

The new CM will be sworn in at a grand ceremony at Janata Maidan scheduled tomorrow evening. The event will be attended by Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
