BJP stays away from Odisha House panel meet on paddy MSP

Bhubaneswar, Apr 26:

The BJP today stayed away from Odisha Assembly’s House Committee that met here today to deliberate on the panel’s proposed visit to Delhi to submit a memorandum to Prime Minister Narendra Modi to increase minimum support price (MSP) of paddy to Rs 2930 per quintal.

While Congress and BJD members of the Committee attended the meeting, the BJP stayed away.

“It is surprising that none of the honourable members of the BJP attended the meeting. It won’t be inappropriate to call it as a betrayal of Odisha farmers,” said Food Supplies and Consumer Welfare Minister Sanjay Das Burma reacting on BJP members abstaining from the meeting.

“BJP MLAs Kanak Vardhan Singhdeo and Bibhuti Bhusan Harichandan were the members of the Committee. Since they were absent Singhdeo who has gone to Raipur had asked me to attend the meeting. But later he told me Assembly secretariat told him that only concerned members of the Committee can attend the meeting. Otherwise, I would have attended the meeting,” said Pradip Purohit BJP MLA from Padampur.

“A meeting of the Committee was held today. It was decided at the meeting to very soon request the Prime Minister for an appointment,” said Leader of the Opposition in the Odisha Assembly Narasingha Mishra after the meeting.

“Discussions are underway, nothing has been finalized. Since MSP is announced in June-July we have decided to meet the Prime Minister before that. After the memorandum is compiled and finalized we will seek a date,” informed Odisha Assembly Speaker and Committee Chairman Niranjan Pujari talking to reporters after the meeting.
