Bhubaneswar, Jan 6:

Odisha unit of BJP has taken a call to hold demonstrations and agitations in each and every village of the state against the irregularities in NFSA ration card distribution, said senior leader of the party Bijoy Mohapatra in a press conference organised in Bhubaneswar today.

“We will go to each village of the state to take up the issue. Poor men who should have been enrolled have been left out of the rolls while politicians and government officers have found place in these lists. The godowns are packed to the brim, but distribution of essential commodities is yet to commence because of these irregularities. The people of the state are going to protest against such misrule and BJP will stand by them in each step,” said Mohapatra.

He also pulled up the government for issuing advertisements asking ineligible beneficiaries to return their cards and termed the process “illegal”.

“Every time there is an allegation against a politician, they say we would return the card and withdraw our application. But, the law doesn’t allow for any such withdrawal. The government has to decide the beneficiaries and it has to register cases if it discovers that someone has applied for it even though he should not have. Besides, case should be registered against the Food Supply and Consumer Welfare Secretary as he has gone against the rule by issuing the advertisement,” he added.

Further, he went on the point out that while cases have been registered against officers in the irregularity, no politician has been prosecuted.

Commenting on his allegations made by BJP, BJD Spokesperson Sashi Bhusan Behera said that the government is trying to do its best to rectify the rolls and BJP shouldn’t complicate it further.

“We have always been with the people and they have always been with us. Even if BJP goes to the villages, it won’t put forward any challenges for us. As a political party, they have the rights to go wherever they wish. So far as NFSA issue is concerned, we have been consistently trying to rectify the rolls. Does Bijoy Mohapatra want the issue to be sorted out or the discomfort of the government is all that he wants!” said Behera.
