Berhampur: A BJP worker was killed in a clash with supporters of the BJD at Sri Krushna Saranpur village under Khallikote police limits in Odisha's Ganjam district on Wednesday night.

As per reports, a group clash ensued between the supporters of the two parties over putting up posters for the elections. Sharp weapons were also used in the fight.

The BJP worker sustained injuries in the clash and died. The deceased was identified as Dilip Pahan.

The incident also left eight men from both sides critically injured. The injured ones were undergoing treatment at the MKCG Medical College and Hospital here.

On the other hand, Odisha Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) Nikunja Bihari Dhal expressed concern over the matter and directed the Ganjam Collector and SP to take steps in order to curb incidents of pre-poll violence in the area.

He clarified that any kind of violence in the state will not be tolerated. He further said that the Election Commission has zero tolerance policy towards such violent incidents.
