BJP’s Ashwini Vaishnaw, 2 BJD leaders elected unopposed to Rajya Sabha from Odisha

Bhubaneswar: BJP candidate Ashwini Vaishnaw and BJD candidates Debashish Samantaray and Subhasish Khuntia were elected unopposed to the Rajya Sabha from Odisha.

While BJD nominees Debashish Samantaray and Subhasish Khuntia were elected unopposed, Union Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw was re-elected to the upper house from Odisha with support from the ruling BJD.

Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik-led BJD had announced its support towards BJP candidate Ashwini Vaishnaw in the Rajya Sabha elections for the “larger interest of the state’s Railways and Telecom development”.

Three Rajya Sabha seats from Odisha are set to be vacant in April following the completion of terms of Union Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw, and BJD MPs Prashant Nanda and Amar Patnaik.
