Sambalpur, Aug 20:

In a shocking incident, a class V student of Patnaikpada Primary School in Odisha’s district headquarters town of Sambalpur sustained bleeding injuries after he was allegedly thrashed by a blind teacher for a trivial fault.

Reports said Kamal Bag, a class V student of Patnaikpada Primary School, one of the oldest schools in Sambalpur town, was asked by Kishore Sahoo, a blind teacher to get a gutkha pouch for him from a nearby shop on Tuesday.

Kamal fetched the gutkha pouch but while handing it over, his foot accidentally touched the teacher’s feet. This infuriated the teacher who allegedly beat up the child leading to bleeding from one of his ears.

When the matter came to light, angry guardians and local people rushed to the school and gheraoed the teacher for his barbaric act.

As news spread, the local Block Education Officer (BEO) Sudhansu Sekhar Mishra reached the school and questioned the headmaster and others including the victim and suspended the accused teacher after he found the allegations to be true.

Kamal’s father had lodged an FIR against the accused teacher at the Town police station on Tuesday evening.

While the police are investigating the matter, the accused teacher Sahoo has denied the allegation.
