Blot on Khaki! Odisha cop rapes young woman for days at gunpoint, absconds

Bhubaneswar:  In yet another shameful incident, a 25-year-old woman was allegedly raped by a Subedar of the 7th Battalion of the Odisha State Armed Police  (OSAP) at gunpoint for days.

However, the accused identified as Debasis Swain has absconded after the incident.

A  case has been registered at Capital police station under Sections 376 (2) (A), 344, 506 of IPC  and Sections 25 and 27 of Arms Act.  Yesterday, police recorded the victims’ statement and sent her to hospital for medical examination.

As per the complaint lodged by the woman, Debasis had brought her to his official quarters in Unit 1 here on March 28 for domestic work with  a monthly salary of RS 4,000.  The cop told her that his wife and children have gone to village due to lockdown. Hearing this, the woman said she will come to work once his wife and children return from village.

The cop’s evil intention came out  when she was starting to leave the house. Keeping a gun at her head,  he asked asked her to stay quite and later locked her in a room. And, since then he used to rape the woman at gunpoint everyday after returning from duty. He has also allegedly assured her of marriage.

On August 1, the Subedar dropped her near Xavier Square in Dharmasala area of Jajpur district and threatened her of her life if she discloses the matter before anyone.

The woman, a resident of Xavier Square in Dharmasala area in Jajpur, had met an accident near Acharya Vihar Square here two years ago. Debasis had rescued and admitted her to Capital Hospital. After treatment, he had again dropped her in her house.
