Blot on uniform! Three cops in Odisha held for involvement in cannabis smuggling

Gunupur: The Rayagada police arrested three Home Guards and another person for their alleged involvement in cannabis smuggling and forwarded them to a court today.

As per reports, the three Home Guards – Prasad Kumbhar, Gopabandhu Gauda and G. Krishna Rao – allowed a vehicle carrying cannabis to cross a checkpoint set up near Gumuda under Gudari police limits in return of money.

Gunupur SDPO Ajay Kumar Barik said the three Home Guards took Rs 4.7 lakh from one Anil Kumar Gauda of Gopalpuranchal area to allow the cannabis-laden vehicle to go on May 17 night near Gumuda.

The police official added Anil Kumar Gauda has been also arrested and forwarded to the court.

A total of Rs 3 lakh of the bribe amount were seized by the police from the three Home Guards.

A case 34/21 has been registered at Gudari police station and investigation into the matter is underway, the police official added.
