Bhubaneswar: The civic body in Odisha capital here has urged people not to dump construction and demolition (C&D) waste on public places, including roads and drains, under its jurisdiction.
Dumping of C&D waste on roads, drains and public places often causes traffic issues and waterlogging in the locality, said the Bhubaneswar Municipal Corporation (BMC) in a statement.
The residents, real estate firms and government and private entities should dispose of their C&D waste properly and carefully. Any violation in this regard will invite stern action under Odisha Municipal Corporation Act 2003 and C&D Waste Management Rules 2016, added the BMC.
The civic authorities will seize construction materials and impose hefty penalties on the violators, said the BMC.
Anyone found dumping C&D waste on public places, roads and drains will be slapped with a penalty of Rs 6,000. Besides, the violator would have to pay Rs 2,000 as administrative expenses to the civic body, stated the BMC.
Moreover, if the BMC removes the waste by using tractor or truck, it will charge Rs 1,500 and Rs 3,000 per trip respectively.
BMC Commissioner Rajesh Pravakar Patil has urged people to take the help of the civic body through SAFA Bhubaneswar App or helpline no. 1929 for proper disposal of the C&D waste.
Earlier, the BMC was imposing a penalty of Rs 5,000 on the violators. In addition, if the civic body removed the waste using its own vehicle, it would charge Rs 4,500 per trip.
