BMC official succumbs to COVID-19

Bhubaneswar: An official of Bhubaneswar Municipal Corporation (BMC) in Bhubaneswar city succumbed to Novel Coronavirus, informed the BMC today.

Biswajit Manna, Ward Officer, Ward No.45, BMC South East Zone, has lost his life while discharging his duties in the fight against COVID-19 for the mankind, said the BMC Zonal Deputy Commissioner (South East Zone).

Manna was diagnosed with the COVID-19 on September 17 and was undergoing treatment at the SUM COVID Hospital in Bhubaneswar. He breathed his last on Thursday night i.e September 24.

Prior to his detection as the COVID-19 positive, he was assigned the role of Nodal Officer for all COVID-19 related activities including home isolation of positive cases, shifting of emergency cases to hospital and active surveillance in slums and non-slum areas in Ward No.45.

Manna showed exemplary dedication and devotion in his job. He was infected with COVID-19 while discharging his duties.

The Zonal Deputy Commissioner urged the BMC Commissioner to declare Manna as the COVID warrior and confer martyrdom status on the deceased official, who died while discharging his duties in battle against the COVID-19.
