Police recovered Sunday the body of four year old Kanhu Das of Crusher basti in Tapanga who had gone missing from his home three days ago.
The killers after brutally strangulating the child to death had dumped the body at Khua Mundia to destroy evidence, police said.
Khordha Sadar police have detained two persons in connection with the murder and are interrogating them. Though police the real motivation behind the murder is yet to be established, police suspect old rivalry or witchcraft to be the reason.
Sources said Bulu Das of Puruna Budutul area of Purushottampur in Ganjam district works at the stone crusher unit owned by Srinivas Pahantasingh at Tapang . Das stays with his family in the basti near the crusher. His four year old son Kanhu went missing on November 21 while he was playing in front of his house. Unable to locate his son despite frantic searching, Das lodged a complaint with the Sadar police station.
Police after registering a missing person case began inquiry during which local people informed the police that they had seen one Baidhar Singh of the same basti moving with Kanhu towards the nearby hill. Basing on the information police detained Baidhar Singh and Sudarshan Singh at the police station for further interrogation.
Reports said both have admitted they have killed the four year old.
