Body carried on trolley rickshaw over COVID-19 scare in Odisha

Buguda: The stigma associated with COVID-19 forced a family member of a young businessman, who died after suffering from fever today, to carry his mortal remains on a trolley to crematorium in Buguda NAC area of Ganjam district today.

After relatives refused to shoulder the youth’s body, his family member hired a trolley and carried the mortal remains to the crematorium. His family members said the youth was suffering from fever for past ten days and passed away today. As the youth’s swab samples were not sent for tests, relatives did not shoulder his body suspecting his death due to COVID-19.

A local said many people died in past week after suffering from fever. There has been a panic among the locals following these deaths, the local said.

Till mow, a total of 5766 persons from Ganjam district contracted COVID-19. While 54 persons have died of the disease, the number of active persons now stands at 1,959.
