After a massive underwater search, the body of a student of the National Institute of Technology (NIT), Rourkela, who had drowned while taking a bath at Gudguda waterfall in Mahupali area of Odisha's Sambalpur district was retrieved today.
Notably, two students of NIT-Rourkela had drowned while taking a bath in the waterfall.
While the body of one of them was fished out yesterday, the other was retrieved today, Sub-divisional Police Officer (SDPO), Kuchinda, RP Sahu said.
The deceased identified as Soumya Ranjan Baral (22) of Puri and Nishant Rawat (22) of Uttarakhand, along with 33 other students, had gone to Gudguda fall for a picnic when the mishap occurred yesterday. While body of Nishant was recovered yesterday, Soumya’s corpse was retrieved today, police said.
The picnickers are student of final year civil engineering department of NIT-Rourkela.
