Body of BBA girl student who had gone missing in Power Channel fished out

Burla: Following a frantic search for nearly two days, the body of a girl named Nisha Jha, who went missing on Tuesday evening at around 5.00 pm after falling into the Power Channel of Hirakud Dam at Burla in Odisha’s Sambalpur district, was fished out today by a team of fire services personnel.

“We fished out the body from near Mahanadi Sadak Ghat while it was floating on water,” a member of the local fire services team expressed.

A source said that police have registered an unnatural death (U/d) case in this connection and launched a probe, which is underway. A team of police also recorded the statements of some local youths, who had attempted to rescue Nisha on the intervening day. The girl’s male friend was detained to ascertain the circumstances leading to the fatal mishap.

It is pertinent to mention, Nisha had gone there to meet her male friend. The girl from Jharsuguda town was a BBA student of a Rourkela-based private educational institution. She had befriended a +3 student of Gangadhar Meher University in Sambalpur town on Instagram three weeks ago.

Nisha had come to her sister’s place at Jagannath Colony in Sambalpur town. Subsequently, she went to the power channel with her friend on his scooter. However, she slipped into the water while spending time with her friend at the spot.

She slipped when water suddenly gushed in and it is said that this was their first meeting.

Some videos of the girl taken by her male friend have surfaced in the meanwhile.
