Body of elderly man found while floating in pond in Odisha’s Cuttack; family alleges murder

Salipur: The body of an elderly man who had gone missing since yesterday was spotted today by some local residents while floating in a pond under mysterious circumstances at Raghavpur village of Balisahi panchayat under Salipur police limits in Cuttack district.

However, family of the deceased alleged that the elderly man has been killed by somebody.

The deceased was identified as Nityananda Bhoi, who belonged to Raghavpur village.

According to a police source, the body was spotted nearly two kilometres away from his house.

As per an FIR lodged by Nityananda’s family, blood was oozing from the elderly man’s head when his body was fished out from the pond water. He might have been killed and thrown into the pond.

On being informed by the family members, Salipur police reached the spot and seized the body. Police have registered an unnatural death (U/d) case in this connection and initiated a probe.

“A detailed investigation is on and the exact cause behind the elderly man’s death can be ascertained only after a post-mortem report comes in,” a policeman of Salipur PS expressed.
