In a tragic incident, a Bol Bom devotee (Kanwaria) drowned to death in Bhargavi river near Chandanpur in Odisha's Puri district, today.

The deceased was identified as Ganeswar Rout hailing from Angul.

According to sources, Rout was swept away by the river while collecting water for Jalalagi. On being informed about the incident, Chandanpur police and fire personnel reached the spot and recovered the body.

In another incident, three Bol Bom devotees were injured after two bikes collided head-on at Tipilei Chhak near Bhuban in Odisha's Dhenkanal district, today.

The accident took place when they were returning home after completing Jalalagi ritual at Buddheswar temple in Bhuban.

While two of the injured were admitted to Kamakshyanagar hospital, one was rushed to Bhuban hospital for treatment.

Notably, thousands of devotees thronged Shiva temples across Odisha on the first Monday of the holy month of Shravan today. Large queues of devotees with pitchers hung from bamboo sticks slung across their shoulders were seen patiently waiting for their turn to pour the holy water on the Shiva Linga at temples across the state.
