BR Life acquires Kalinga Hospital in Odisha capital

Bhubaneswar: BR Life, a leading healthcare services firm, acquired Odisha’s first super speciality Kalinga Hospital for around Rs 200 crore here.

The acquisition process that had commenced on January 30 has completed, informed Kalinga Hospital CEO Dr Alok Loodh.

Kalinga Hospital, the first multispecialty with super speciality corporate hospital in Odisha, was bought at an estimated amount around Rs 200, sources said.

The hospital was acquired by the BR Life, owned by Padma Shree Dr BR Shetty, who is the founder and chairman of NMC Healthcare, with an aim to expand its healthcare services in Odisha.

The firm is planning to set up multiple hospitals and to take over various hospitals for providing better healthcare services to 20,000 patients across India, sources said.

Following the acquisition, the people of the state will be provided super speciality treatment at affordable costs by building new hospital building apart from launching an advanced OT, radiation therapy treatment, advanced sports injury treatment on the hospital premises, said Dr Loodh.

BR Life will make efforts to retain the glory of Kalinga Hospital in the past two decades here, he added.

The Kalinga Hospital was built in an area of 10 acre land allotted by Odisha government in heart of the city in the year 1990. The hospital set up by 54 NRI Odias under the name of Hospital Corporation of Orissa (HCO), a company registered in the US, was inaugurated by the then Chief Minister Biju Patnaik.
