Brajarajnagar By-poll: BJD, BJP, Congress candidates file nominations

Jharsuguda: Ruling BJD’s candidate for the ensuing Brajarajnagar By-poll Alaka Mohanty today filed her nomination paper at Jharsuguda Sub-Collector’s office today.

Mohanty, wife of late MLA Kishore Kumar Mohanty, filed her nomination in presence of several senior party leaders, including Ministers Susanta Singh, Pdmanabha Behera, Tukuni Sahu and Naba Kishore Das.

Earlier in the day, BJP candidate Radharani Panda arrived at the Sub-Collector’s office in a grand procession with hundreds of workers to file her nomination paper. Similarly, Congress’ Kishore Chandra Patel accompanied by several party leaders and supporters filed his nomination paper for the by-poll, scheduled to be held on May 31.

Earlier on May 4, Returning officer-cum-Jharsuguda Sub-Collector had issued a formal notification inviting nominations for the by-poll.

The nominations will be scrutinised on May 12 while the candidates will be allowed to withdraw their candidature by May 17. The entire election process will be completed by June 5.

A total of 2,14,745 voters are eligible to exercise their franchise in the constituency while poling will be held at 257 booths.
