Brajrajnagar bypoll: 3-day leave for voters residing outside constituency

Bhubaneswar: With the preparations are in full swing for conducting bypoll to Brajrajnagar Assembly seat scheduled on May 31, voters residing outside the constituency can avail 3-day leave to cast their votes.

“While there will be one day holiday for voters on polling day in Brajrajnagar, the voters, who are staying outside Brajrajnagar, can take three days leaves, i.e., a day before election day (May 30), on election day (May 31) and after election day (June 1),” informed Odisha CEO (Chief Electoral Officer) Sushil Kumar Lohani at a presser here today.

Giving details about preparations of bypoll, he said that arrangements for Brajrajnagar bypoll are in final stage. There are 11 candidates currently in fray and total 2,14,878 voters will decide fate of the candidates. The polling will be held in 279 booths including 5 pink booths for women voters and 30 model booths. The Electronic Voting Machines or EVMs and Voter Verified Paper Audit Trail or VVPAT machines will be used in the bypoll.

As the names of schools have been changed, the voters need to verify their booths before the polling day, the CEO suggested.

Besides, total 525 voters had applied for postal voting due to Covid-19 pandemic, of which 325 have been selected for it. The process for collecting of postal ballots will commence from tomorrow.

The State Election Commission (SEC) will arrange webcasting in 50% polling stations. Anyone can get information by dialing 1950 toll-free number, he added.
