Bhubaneswar, Jan 10:
The daredevilry of a city-based young girl has earned her a prestigious job in Odisha police.
Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik today handed over the appointment letter of Special Police Officer (SPO) to 23-year-old Chinmayee Bhuyan here during the 9th Raising Day of the Commissionerate Police held at the OSAP 7th Battalion Ground here in the city.
Chinmayee would train the women personnel of Odisha police in self-defence techniques. Besides, she would also help girls of the various educational institutions in learing self-defence techniques so as to protect themselves from assailants.
“Crime against women, like in Nandankanan road and Cuttack, has come to the fore recently where the girls have confronted the wrongdoers. The girls should react to situations. If you can save yourself by reacting, then why not? Girls are no longer counted as the weaker sections of the society. We have proved it. After my incident, it is a motivation for everyone. The SPO appointment is a confidence for me. So I will work for it,” Chinmayee expressed.
It may be recalled here that three bike-borne miscreants attacked Chinmayee near Utkal Karate School in Unit 9 area in the city at around 9.30 pm while she was speaking over her mobile phone on her way home in October last year.
The assailants snatched her mobile phone and gold jewellery while she was speaking over mobile phone. She chased the miscreants for almost three kilometers till Unit II area and intercepted the trio followed by a bloody fight.
The karateka dashed her scooter with the snatchers’ bike owing which they fell down. She took on the criminals and forced them to retreat leaving their bike on the spot.
The brave act of the girl trained in martial arts and self-defence techniques was applauded by many. The city Mayor Ananta Narayan Jena and Twin City Commissioner YB Khurania had felicitated her for her exemplary act of courage.
