Jagatsinghpur: As many as two breaches in canal embankment have flooded several areas of Odisha's Jagatsinghpur district.

The breaches developed at Machagaon near Daleighai and Tarikund, inundating Hanumantabrahmapur village, nearby farmlands and a portion of Cuttack-Jagatsinghpur road.

Movement of vehicles on the road was affected due to flowing of knee-deep water.

Rajkishore Sahu, Assistant Executive Engineer of Balia Irrigation Division, explained the cause of the breach, stating, "The overflow of water in the Machagaon canal resulted in this unfortunate incident. There was an issue with the Taladanda canal, causing the excess water from Taladanda and the drains of Cuttack to be released into the Machagaon Canal, thereby leading to its overflow."

Sahu further assured, "We have already initiated water regulation at Biribati, and efforts are underway to seal the breached embankments by employing sand packets. The situation is currently under control, and we anticipate resolving the breaches promptly."
