Bhubaneswar: The Superintendent of Police of Khordha district Ajay Pratap Swain tested positive for COVID-19, confirmed State Health & Family Welfare Department today.
He became the first SP in Odisha to have contracted coronavirus infection. The confirmation was made after antibody test report of senior police officer came out positive.
The doctors advised Swain to remain under home isolation to prevent spread of infection.
Source said that the police officer contracted COVID-19 from an employee assigned in VHF control panel who was recently tested positive for coronavirus.
“I had come in contact with a VHF control panel’s woman staff, who has been diagnosed with the COVID-19. After detection of the positive case, I realised that I was using the same mouth piece, which had been used by the infectee. Suspecting to have contracted the infection, I underwent COVID-19 test, whose result came out positive for the virus. I have informed all my staff about the update and currently, I am under home isolation,” Swain told media.
