Breaking: Odia actress Deepa Sahu no more

Bhubaneswar: Odia actress Deepa Sahu, who was suffering from ovarian cancer, passed away while undergoing treatment at a private hospital here today.

The actress breathed her last at 4.02 pm today, sources said.  She is survived by husband Manindra Dutta and a daughter.

“She was undergoing treatment since July 12. As she was a cancer patient, her immunity was very low for which she was contracting infection very frequently. Today, she suffered cardiac failure owing which she was shifted to ICU. We gave cardiac compression with CPR but could not revive her,” said Dr Priyadarsini Das.

Sources said Deepa, who was popular in the Odia album industry, was diagnosed with cancer one year ago. After her condition worsened, she was admitted to the Capital Hospital by actor-turned BJP leader Akhil Pattnaik and social activist Prashant Nayak. She was hospitalized on June 20 in critical condition. After a few days, she was shifted to AIIMS Bhubaneswar.

The actress has many albums to her credit, including several Sambalpuri video songs. She rose to fame in late 90s with hit albums like ‘Tora krushna chuda rangara nali odhani’, ‘Hai hai to malli phula gajara’ and  ‘Ekda ekda ra’. She has also acted in few telefilms. She had debuted in Ollywood  with Nari Akhire Niyan.
