Bhubaneswar: Odisha reported its third COVID-19 death as a person from Ganjam district succumbed to the disease, official sources said today.

The state also registered a major surge in the number of cases as 58 more persons tested positive for the virus taking the tally to 352. The fresh cases are from Ganjam (29), Balasore (15), Angul (13) and Mayurbhanj (1). Angul joined the list of COVID-19 affected districts with maiden case.

The new cases from Ganjam and Mayurbhanj are Surat returnees. Out of the 15 fresh cases of Balasore, five are Karnataka returnees and ten returned from West Bengal. Similarly, out of the 13 cases of Angul, 11 are Surat returnees, one returned from Maharashtra and another person is a local, sources said, adding that all fresh cases of the state were detected at quarantine centres except the local case of Angul.

Number of positive cases in Ganjam crossed 100-mark with 29 new cases. With this, the number of active cases in the state stood at 281 while 68 patients have recovered so far.
