BREAKING! Two cases of Omicron confirmed in Odisha

Bhubaneswar: With surge in Omicron cases across India, two persons were found infected with the new variant of COVID-19 in Odisha.

Two cases of Omicron were confirmed in Odisha, informed Ajay Parida, Director, Institute of Life Sciences (ILS), Bhubaneswar, today.

Both the infectees have foreign travel history to Nigeria and Qatar respectively.

Among two Omicron infected patients, one is aged about 41 years and 43 years. Both are male. While one hails from Jagatsingpur district, another is a resident of Khordha district. They have mild symptoms, stated the official giving details about Odisha’s first two Omicron cases.

It is worth mentioning that three samples were sent for genome sequencing to confirm Omicron cases in Odisha and the report of two came out positive for Omicron variant.

Official source said that 7 foreign returnees had tested positive for COVID-19 in the State, of which genome sequencing report of four infectees detected that they were not infected with Omicron strain of the deadly virus. With latest genome sequencing result of three, now 5 out of 7 foreign returnees came out negative for Omicron.

Meanwhile, the Omicron cases tally reached 200 in the country, according to Union Health Ministry.
