Angul: A young woman of Odapada in Odisha's Dhenkanal district yesterday lodged an FIR against the person with whom she was going to tie nuptial knot on the very day as the groom cancelled the wedding and absconded after her parents failed to meet his dowry demand of Rs one crore.
According to reports, marriage of the complainant, a resident of Odapada, was fixed with one Shanti Swarup of Angul.

As per her allegation, the groom's family had demanded and received Rs 20 lakh from her parents for the marriage. However, on the day of the marriage (January 24), Shanti Swarup demanded Rs one crore more as dowry. As her parents were unable to give him the amount, he cancelled the marriage and went absconding, she alleged.
The woman, being decked up as a bride, reached Angul police station along with her kin and lodged a complaint against him.
"Investigation into the matter is on. The woman has alleged that the groom's family had earlier demanded Rs 20 lakh for the marriage which was given to them by her parents. However, on the day of marriage, the groom asked for Rs one crore. The bride's parents expressed their inability to pay the amount following which the groom absconded," said Harirar Pani, SDPO, Angul.
Worth mentioning, both the bride and groom are software engineer by profession.
