Bhubaneswar: A foreign national allegedly entered the Jagannath temple at Odisha’s Puri town today.

The foreign national, identified as Thomas Craig Sheldon from United Kingdom, was spotted roaming near the Beharan gate on the premises of the 12th century shrine in the afternoon.

The foreign national, with tonsured head, was dressed up in traditional clothes.

On being informed, Singhadwar police detained the foreign national for questioning. The police came to know about the foreign national’s identity from his driving licence.

The police will examine the CCTV footage from the temple as part of their investigation into the incident.

Earlier in the day, the Sea Beach police station had detained the foreign national for causing nuisance on the beach near Swargadwar in an inebriated state.

It is worth mentioning here that a few Bangladeshi nationals had been caught while entering Jagannath temple on March 3.

Notably, non-Hindus are barred from entering the shrine.
