Brown sugar worth Rs 25 lakh seized in Odisha capital; one held

Bhubaneswar: Continuing its crackdown on smuggling of brown sugar, the Khandagiri police here arrested one person and seized 254 grams of the contraband item today.

The market value of the item is over 25 lakh, informed police sources.

One Muna Sethi of Daspalla in Nayagarh district was staying in Kalinga Nagar area here and selling the contraband item. On receiving the information, the police conducted a raid and arrested the accused. They also seized a country-made rifle, a car, a gold chain, two motorcycles and three mobile phones from his possession.

“There are 12 cases pending accused at  various police stations in Bhubaneswar,” sources added.
