Brown sugar worth over Rs 1.3 crore seized in Odisha;1 held

Balasore: Busting a major brown sugar smuggling racket, the Special Task Force (STF) of Odisha Crime Branch seized the contraband item worth over Rs 1.3 crore from a car at Sahadevkhunta bus stand here late last night.

The cops seized the car and arrested a person identified as Sk Riyazuddin of Banka Khajuri under Balasore Town police limits in the district.

Acting on intelligence input, the STF team conducted a raid at the bus stand late last night and seized brown sugar weighing 1. 32 kg and other incriminating materials from a car. After the accused person failed to produce valid documents in support of possession of the contraband item, the STF arrested him. He was produced before court today.

In this connection, a case has been registered at STF police station under Section 21(c) of NDPS Act, 1985. Further investigation is underway.

Due to sustained drive in 2020, the STF alone has so far seized 16. 711 kg brown sugar and arrested as many as 41 drug peddlers.
