Brown sugar worth Rs 1.5 Cr seized; 3 arrested

Baleswar police today seized brown sugar weighing 185 grams valued at around Rs 1.5 crore and arrested three persons in two separate incidents.

The accused have been identified as Prafulla Sendha (48) of Kendrapara, Banguru Hembram and Sania Hembram, both natives of Balasore, said police sources.

Sources said Prafulla Sendha, who stayed in a rented house, worked as a salesman at a grocery shop in Dewan Patna under Town police station limits. He was involved in drug peddling for the last couple of months, sources added.
Police and excise department sleuths raided his rented house and recovered 132.68 grams of brown sugar worth around Rs 1 crore, police sources said.

In a separate incident, police and excise department sleuths raided a house in Arar Bazar under Town police limits and seized 54 grams of the contraband and arrested Bangaru and his wife Sania. The seized brown sugar is valued at Rs 50 lakh.

Sources said the couple which procured the drug from neighbouring states peddled it mainly to college students.
