Brown sugar worth Rs 30 lakh seized in Odisha; 1 held

Balasore: As part of the anti-drug drive, the Special Task Force (STF) of Odisha Crime Branch (CB) today seized brown sugar worth Rs 30 lakh here.

Acting on a tip off, the STF team conducted a raid on a house early this morning hour and seized 300 grams the contraband item, whose market value is around Rs 30 lakh. The officials also arrested a person for his alleged involvement in the the brown sugar smuggling.

The Crime Branch suspects that the arrested man has links with international drug cartels. However, further investigation is underway in this connection.

Yesterday, the Commissionerate Police had seized around 100 gram brown sugar worth over Rs 10 lakh from Saheed Nagar area in Bhubaneswar and arrested a person hailing from Balasore in this connection. The narcotic item was smuggled to Bhubaneswar from Balasore. Besides, the cops had also arrested two youth, including a Diploma student after seizing 24 gram brown sugar in Patia are in the state capital.
