Brown sugar worth Rs 5 lakh seized in Odisha’s Balasore, 2 held

Balasore: Excise officials have seized brown sugar weighing 38 grams worth Rs 5 lakh in Markona area under Simulia police limits in Odisha’s Balasore district and arrested two persons in this connection.

The accused have been identified as Faiz Mohammed and Ashiq Khan of Rathipur village in Khordha district.

Acting on a tip-off about the contraband being carried by the duo on a motorcycle, cops intercepted the vehicle on NH-16 at Markona last night.

The brown sugar was later seized from their possession. Both have been forwarded to court, a police official said, adding that the two were involved in drug peddling in the past.
