The close circuit television (CCTV) footage of the brutal assault on two youths in Odisha capital late on Saturday night will leave you squirmish.

In the blood-curdling incident, a youth was mercilessly beaten to death and his other associate battling for life after an unidentified youth hit them with a wooden plank in Nayapalli area at around 9.11 pm yesterday.

The deceased has been identified as Basant Pradhan of Ganapati Nagar in the city and the grievously injured youth has been identified as Lambodhara of the same area.

The attack took place near N6-37, Sai Rachita Residency— a ladies hostel in the posh area of the city.

In the footage, a youth comes from behind and attacks the duo while they were walking along the road. After the two fell down on the ground, the assailant batters them relentlessly and fled the spot.

The locals dialled the PCR for help. However, they reached the spot almost an hour late, the locals alleged.

Had they reached on time and rushed them to a nearby hospital, the life of the youth could have been saved, a local said.

Police reached the spot and rushed them to Capital Hospital where one of them was declared dead on arrival. The other youth was referred to SCB Medical College and Hospital in a critical condition.

“We have begun an investigation into the incident. Preliminary investigation reveals that it could be due to past enmity,” Nayapalli police station IIC, Suryamani Pradhan said.
