Phulbani: A troop of Border Security Force (BSF) 99-Batallion today thwarted a major naxal attack and recovered an improvised explosive device (IED) following a combing operation in Kandhamal district.

According to an official source, a significant intelligence tip-off received early in the morning led to a decisive operation launched from COB Pahireju, targeting the forested region near Tilkapanga village of Pahireju panchayat under Gochhapada police limits.

BSF troops, in collaboration with local police personnel, swiftly moved to the designated area and conducted an extensive search operation. During this meticulous search, a powerful IED was discovered, which was concealed in the forest terrain. Promptly, a Bomb Disposal Unit (BDU) was alerted and the IED was expertly dismantled, thereby neutralising a major threat.

Before the establishment of COB in Pahireju, the region was a notorious hotbed for naxal activities. However, the deployment of BSF forces has profoundly transformed the security landscape, instilling a renewed sense of safety among the local populace.

The once unchecked naxal movement has been severely restricted, underscoring the success of BSF in stabilising the area. This operation marked a substantial victory for the BSF and a devastating blow to Naxal insurgents. The timely intervention not only safeguarded the community but also prevented a potentially catastrophic incident during the crucial Lok Sabha and Assembly elections.

“This triumph stands as a testament to the unwavering commitment and vigilance of the BSF, ensuring the continued security and peace of the region,” a senior official expressed.
