BSNL incurs Rs 93 crore loss due to Cyclone FANI in Odisha

Bhubaneswar: The Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited (BSNL) has incurred losses of around Rs 93 crore due to Cyclone FANI in Odisha.

According to preliminary damage assessment report by the state-owned India’s largest telecom service provider, the highest trail of damage has occurred in Bhubaneswar and Puri cities ravaged by the dangerous tropical cyclone.

The normalcy will be restored in Bhubaneswar in next three days, informed BSNL Odisha Circle CGM Udaya Shankar Panda.

Speaking about the extensive damage in telecommunication, he said that total 1732 towers were damaged due to the cyclone in Odisha, out of which 57 telephone poles have been uprooted in Bhubaneswar.

Similarly, huge damage in BSNL equipment was reported in Puri, Cuttack, Ganjam and Khordha districts. Out of 6,000 Optical Fiber Telecommunications, which were installed recently in Bhubaneswar, 4,000 have been damaged in the city.

The Optical Fiber Telecommunication re-connection will be provided in next seven days in the State capital, Panda said.

However, 52,000 landline exchanges out of total 70,000 have been restored in FANI-hit areas.

In Khordha out of 99 fixed lined exchanges 95 are functional, out of 41 fixed lined exchanges 32 are functional in Puri and out of 77 fixed lined exchanges all are functional in Cuttack districts, he added.
