Odisha Sun Times Bureau
Bhubaneswar, Feb 7:

Though the Odisha government has stepped up additional security by providing a bullet-proof vehicle for chief minister Naveen Patnaik after receiving an anonymous letter threatening to blow up Naveen Niwas, the chief minister is unwilling to ride on the bullet-proof vehicle and has preferred to move in his Maruti SX-4 car as he is used to, sources said.

Bullet proof SUV for Odisha CMThe bullet-proof Scorpio SUV (OD-02-J-0220) can move through the fire, withstand gun shots and landmine blasts.

Besides, a jammer has been included in the chief minister’s carcade which is used for the security of the President and the Prime Minister. The jammer has the capability to deactivate any blast which is monitored and controlled through electronic devices.

But as the chief minister is in no mood to ride on the bullet-proof SUV, its service is now rendered meaningless as it now used to follow his car.

Apart from this, extra security measures have also been taken in and around the State Assembly with the deployment of anti-terrorist squad for the first time.

Meanwhile, a senior official of the commissionerate police has said the police have a clue about the sources of the anonymous letter and would appropriate action.

It may be mentioned that the commissionerate police, on February 5, had received an anonymous letter threatening to blow up several vital installations in the state capital, including Naveen Nivas, the chief minister’s residence, the State Assembly and the State BJP headquarters office.
