Bus fares reduced in Odisha under automatic mechanism

The Odisha government today slashed bus fares across all categories under automatic fare adjustment mechanism.

As per a notification issued by the Commerce and Transport Department, the fares of ordinary and express buses have been reduced by 1 paise per km and that of deluxe and AC deluxe buses by 2 paise per km.

With this, the fare for ordinary buses has come down from 59 paise to 58 paise per km, express buses from 62 paise to 61 paise, deluxe buses from 82 paise to 80 paise and AC deluxe buses from Rs 1.03 to Rs 1.01 paise per km.

Worth mentioning, the state government had announced the implementation of the automatic mechanism for revision of fares on June 4 last year conceding a long-standing demand of the All Odisha Private Bus Owners’ Association.

According to the automatic mechanism, the fare for ordinary and express buses would be hiked by one paise per km if the price of diesel is hiked by Rs 2 per litre. The fare of ordinary and express buses will be reduced by one paise per km if the price of diesel is reduced by Rs 2 per litre.

Similarly, fare for deluxe and AC deluxe buses would be hiked by two paise per km if the price of diesel is increased by Rs 2 per litre. The fare for deluxe and AC deluxe buses would be reduced by two paise per km if the price of diesel is reduced by Rs 2 per litre.

Notably, diesel price was reduced by Rs 2 per litre on Tuesday.
