Buses torched: Assn decides to snap services to Odisha’s Puri

Bhubaneswar: Private bus operators in Odisha have decided not to provide services to various parts in Puri district after three buses were torched in Pipili this morning following a bus accident which claimed two lives.

The Bhubaneswar Bus Owners’ Association has called for the boycott from tomorrow which has been supported by All Odisha Private Bus Owners’ Association (AOPBOA) today and their Cuttack unit.

The operators’ association has decided not to ply buses to Puri, Konark, Nimapara and Astaranga from Bhubaneswar and Cuttack till the state government gives assurance to fulfil their demands.

The association has put forth their demands to give compensation for the damage and waiving the EMIs (equated monthly instalments) of the vehicles destroyed in the arsoning.

It may be mentioned here that Pipili was on the boil after a husband-wife duo was run over by a bus this morning resulting in death of the couple.

The locals set ablaze the buses and staged a road blockade in protest.
