Cabinet decision: 11 cancer care units to come up in Odisha

Bhubaneswar: The state government will set up 11 comprehensive cancer care units at various health facilities in Odisha within two years.

The Odisha Cabinet headed by Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik today approved a budget of Rs 1001.14 crore for expanding comprehensive cancer care services across the state.

The state government will set up cancer care units at Bargarh District Headquarters Hospital (DHH), VIMSAR at Burla, SLN Medical College and Hospital at Koraput, MKCG Medical College and Hospital in Berhampur, Saheed Rendo Majhi Medical College and Hospital at Bhawanipatna, BB Medical College and Hospital in Bolangir, PRM Medical College and Hospital at Baripada, FM Medical College and Hospital at Balasore, Dharanidhar Medical College and Hospital in Keonjhar, Government Medical College and Hospital at Talcher and Capital Hospital in Bhubaneswar, said Chief Secretary PK Jena.

Each cancer care unit will have 50 to 100 beds, operation theatres, ICUs, chemotherapy, radiotherapy and palliative care units, he added.

The posts of specialists, super-specialists and technical staffs will be created for these units, said Jena.
