Cabinet nod for construction of barrages across 3 rivers in Odisha

Bhubaneswar: The state government will build barrages across three rivers in Odisha.

The state Cabinet headed by Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik today approved tenders for the barrage projects.

The state government has decided to build a barrage across river Budhabalanga at Darkuli in Balasore district, said Chief Secretary PK Jena.

The project will be implemented with an expenditure of Rs 126.96 crore. The barrage project will provide assured irrigation faciulities 7,300 hectares of land in 107 villages of Balasore district and 13 villages of Mayurbhanj district, he added.

The state government has also planned to construct barrages across Turi and Guntat rivers in Nabarangpur district, revealed the Chief Secretary.

The two barrage projects will be implemented with an expenditure of around Rs 106 crore.

The project will provide irrigation facilities to 9,135 hectares of land in Nabarangpur. Besides, it will ensure drinking water for around 10,000 people in the district, added the Chief Secretary.

The construction work for the three barrage projects would be completed in 30 months, he said.
