Cabinet reshuffle: Modi inducts 9 new faces in team

New Delhi: In the latest cabinet reshuffle in the union government led by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, nine new faces were inducted in the ministry and four Ministers of State including Union Petroleum minister Dharmendra Pradhan were elevated to cabinet rank.

Four Ministers of State Petroleum — Natural Gas Minister Dharmendra Pradhan, Power, Coal, New and Renewable Energy and Mines Minister Piyush Goyal, Commerce and Industry Minister Nirmala Sitharaman and Minority Affairs Minister Muktar Abbas Naqvi were promoted as the cabinet ministers in a reshuffle and expansion of the council of ministers.

The nine new faces include former diplomat Hardeep Puri, former union Home Secretary R.K. Singh, former bureaucrat K.J. Alphons, former Mumbai Police Commissioner Satyapal Singh and MPs Ashwini Choubey and Anant Kumar Hegde.

They were sworn in as cabinet ministers by President Ram Nath Kovind at a swearing in ceremony at the Rashtrapati Bhavan.
