Campus violence back in Odisha’s Utkal University

Bhubaneswar: Tension prevailed on Utkal University campus in Odisha capital after some students, who were staging a dharna, allegedly attacked another group of students.

Two students have been detained for allegedly trying to attack policemen, sources said.

According to reports, students of the Pharmacy Department of the varsity were staging a dharna in front of the main gate in the afternoon over various demands. When some other students, who came in a car asked the agitating students to let them go by opening the main gate. However, the protesting students refused to do so and asked them to take the back gate of the varsity.

Following this, massive clashes erupted between the two groups of students on the campus forcing the police to intervene.

Meanwhile, one platoon of police force has been deployed on the campus to avoid further flare up of the situation.
