According to reports, the locals found two female pachyderms and a calf at Asurkhol under Tileibani block in Prabhasuni Reserve Forest of Deogarh range this morning.
The reason behind the death of the jumbos is yet to be ascertained.
The bodies will be sent for post-mortem after which the reason of death could be known, a forest official said.
It may be mentioned here that another elephant had strayed into Asurkhol village last Sunday (June 5) and was lying at a place in Kapasira forest for three days after which locals had alerted the forest officials. The officials called in experts from Odisha University of Agriculture and Technology (OUAT) to provide treatment to the ailing jumbo. However, it succumbed to the infection three days after undergoing treatment.
