Casteist remark slur: Odisha’s SCB Nursing School closed sine die

Odisha Sun Times Bureau
Cuttack, May 12:

Unable to solve the casteist remark issue or contain the students’ agitation, Odisha’s SCB Nursing School authorities this evening closed the school sine die and asked the students to vacate hostels by 7:30 AM next morning.

SCB nursing agitation

A notification on this context was issued by SCB Superintendent late this evening after a three member investigative committee submitted its report to him in a sealed envelope.

The students, on the other hand, reacted sharply to the announcement and said that they would continue to stay in the hostel and carry on their agitation until action is taken against Principal Kajal Rani Sinha.

Reacting to the development, Commissionerate Police said that it will deploy two platoons of women police in the hospital premises to avoid any untoward incident.

The agitation over the alleged casteist remark made by Odisha’s SCB Nursing School Principal Kajal Rani Sinha today got more complicated as the students, continuing their agitation for the fourth consecutive day, received outside support.

The All India Democratic Students’ Organisation (AIDSO) today staged a demonstration in front of the SCB Superintendent’s office in support of the nursing students.

On the other hand, making matters worse, some of the senior students of the school alleged that they were beaten up by the junior students and filed an FIR in Mangalabag police station. The cops have registered a case against the junior students under section 343, 323 and 34 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC).

Earlier in the day, a meeting held between Hospital Superintendent, Principal, Director of Nursing, Additional Secretary of Health and nursing faculties of the school failed to bring any result.
