Bhubaneswar: A day after her explosive statements on media over casting couch, Odia actress Prakruti Mishra today lodged a Non-Cognizable Offence Information Report (NCR) against film producer Sanjay Nayak aka Tutu Nayak at Dadabhai Naoroji Nagar police station in Andheri West of Mumbai.

A source said that based on the written complaint of actress Prakruti, a case has been registered under Sections 500 (punishment for defamation), 504 (intentional insult to provoke) and 506 (punishment for criminal intimidation) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC).

The issue of casting couch resurfaced in Odia film industry after the actress brought serious allegations against producer Nayak of harassing newcomers in the industry. Speaking to a regional news channel, Prakruti had said, “Nayak usually exploits fresh and aspiring artistes on the false promise of giving them an opportunity to work in his so-called upcoming films.”

After the shooting of any film is over at night, Nayak asks the newcomers to compromise. In case they refuse to do so, he throws them out of his films and takes new artistes in place of them. “Though I have never faced such a situation, I came to know about casting couch incidents from the victims,” she added.

On the other hand, refuting the allegations at a press conference, producer Nayak said earlier in the day that he would file a defamation case against actress Prakruti.

Worth mentioning, Odia actress Jasmine Rath had also levelled similar allegations against Nayak saying that she was ousted from a project as she refused to meet him at a club in Bhubaneswar.

Reacting to the allegation, Nayak said that he decided to drop Jasmine from the film as her ‘male friend’ telephoned Nayak for management of the dates of the actress. It was unprofessional behaviour, the film producer said. He also rubbished the allegation of asking the actress to meet him.
