Bhubaneswar: In a bid to tackle the roaming of stray cattle on the streets of Odisha capital ahead of Odisha Men’s Hockey World Cup-2018, the Bhubaneswar Municipal Corporation (BMC) has launched a cattle tagging drive in collaboration with Fisheries and Animal Resources Development Department.

Under the drive, a plastic tag bearing a number will be attached to the ears of cattle in the presence of BMC veterinary officers.

If any tagged cattle is found roaming on the streets of Bhubaneswar, its owner will have to pay a fine of Rs 1,000 for the animal's release. If a cattle is found untagged on streets, a fine of Rs 1,500 will be imposed on its owner, an official of the BMC said.

Around 2,000 cattle under BMC limits will be tagged free of cost in the first phase, the official added. For the tagging, owners can take their cattle to the nearest veterinary clinic.
