Caught on camera: Miscreants snatch gold chain from woman in Odisha

Balianta: A group of robbery crews snatched a gold chain from a woman in broad daylight while she was walking alone on the road near a private school under Pahala police outpost area on outskirts of Bhubaneswar yesterday.

The victim has been identified as Pushpabati Mahapatra (62), a retired teacher.

The incident has been captured on CCTV installed in the area.

The incident occured while the retired woman teacher was returning from a primary school to her home after completing her work.

The CCTV footage showed that one out of two bike-borne miscreants attacked the woman on the road and ran away with her gold chain from her neck.

The elderly woman suffered head injury following which she was admitted to a nearby hospital for treatment.

Based on a complaint by the victim’s son Satyajit Mahapatra at Pahala police outpost, the primary investigation has been initiated into the incident.

As per the preliminary investigation, the miscreants had used a theft motorcycle for chain snatching crime.

Reports said that the motorcycle owned by a resident namely Sanjay Behera of Johala village was stolen a few days ago.
