Caught on camera! Odisha bizman attacked with rod over non-payment of ‘protection money’

Sambalpur: Seems like the criminal gangs have been more active in Odisha during COVID-19 pandemic as a businessman was attacked by goons at a market complex in Sambalpur district allegedly over non-payment of protection money.

The incident that took place at a market complex at Cheruapada on July 17 in Sambalpur town  has been caught on camera.

The footage showed that two youth are launching a murderous attack on a businessman identified as Debashish Pati at the market, which was wearing a deserted look due to COVID-19 restrictions.

According to reports, Pati got his two hands fractured in the incident and was admitted to the VIMSAR in Burla for treatment.

“Four persons — Lali, Sagar, Krushna and Siva — came to me while I was going to open my shop at the market complex between 3.30 pm and 4.00 pm. They started beating me with steel rods fracturing my two hands. However, I managed to flee from the spot to save my life,” the victim said.

In fact, two youth Lali and Sagar had asked the businessman for protection money on July 1, but the latter was avoiding them. Expressing outrage over it, the duo attacked the businessman and left him injured.

The video featuring attack on the businessman surfaced in media today. Shockingly, even after 8 days of the incident, no action has been taken against the accused persons by the police.
