Bhubaneswar: The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) arrested Santosh Kumar Panigrahy, an Audit officer at Bhubaneswar AG Office, on a charge of bribery.
Santosh Panigrahy, an Assistant Audit Officer, PAG (Audit-1), Bhubaneswar, was caught red-handed while demanding/accepting a bribe of Rs 6500 from the complainant for not raising any audit objection on medical bills of his office,
The AG official had allegedly demanded a 10% bill amount as he had not objected medical bill of Rs 6500 during an audit.
Based on the allegations, the CBI laid a trap and arrested the 'corrupt' official near the RTO Office, Bhubaneswar, where he received the bribe.
Following his arrest, searches were conducted on the premises of the accused in Bhubaneswar and Visakhapatnam. During the raids, the CBI officials recovered documents related to immovable properties belonging to him in Bhubaneswar, Visakhapatnam and Berhampur.
The arrested accused will be produced today in the Court of Special Judge, CBI Cases, Bhubaneswar.
