CBI arrests three senior GST officials in Odisha on graft charge

Bhubaneswar: The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) today arrested three senior GST officials on charges of accepting Rs 10 lakh bribe for settling a case of GST and Central Excise against a private engineering college.

The central probing agency’s Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) Bhubaneswar branch arrested three Superintendents of GST & Central Excise, Bhubaneswar Circle, namely Artabhanjan Kar, Pradip Kumar Acharya and NN Sahoo while accepting Rs 10 lakh from Centurion Institute of Technology’s Account Officer Ashutosh Padhy. The sleuths also arrested Padhy for giving bribe to the three GST officials.

Acting on reliable information, the sleuths laid a trap to catch the Superintendent of GST & Central Excise, Artabhanjan Kar and the Centurion Institute of Technology’s Account Officer red-handed. When the three Superintendents of GST & Central Excise visited the Hotel New Marrion here to receive the alleged bribe amount from Padhy, the sleuths nabbed the four persons while exchanging the bribe amount.

Later searches were carried out at residence and office premises of the three senior GST officials and Padhy.

Investigation into the case is on.
